Page 340, Exercise 12. The temperature in the first quadrant where
T(0,y) = -50 for 1 < y,
T(x,0) = 50 for 0 < x.

Solution. Use the mapping [Graphics:t12.txtgr1.gif].

The temperature function is:

A graph for the solution is:

Temperature in the first quadrant, insulated along the segment x=0, 0<y<1.

The figures for this example were drawn using the F(Z) example file: 340P1012.fzw
