Conformal Mappings

Example 10.12. The transformation w = tan(z) is a one-to-one
conformal mapping of the vertical strip |x| < [Graphics:c30.txtgr1.gif] onto the disk |w| < 1.

The function is [Graphics:c30.txtgr2.gif].

Which is the same as the function [Graphics:c30.txtgr3.gif].

The first function in this composition is [Graphics:c30.txtgr4.gif].

The image is traced using a graph.

The mapping w = tan(z)

Thus, the image of the vertical strip |x| < [Graphics:c30.txtgr7.gif] is the disk |w| < 1.
